Answer

This error message indicates that FranklinPlanner Software does not recognize part of your database and therefore cannot access the data. Specifically, a column in one of your database tables does not have the correct name. When accessing your database (either through FranklinPlanner Software or synchronizing the Palm) the item cannot be found and therefore an error is generated. To resolve the problem, please do the following:

NOTE: When reading through this FAQ you will see the terminology <your name>.mdb. What this means is that there is a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) file that has your name as the title of the file. Microsoft Access is part of the Microsoft Office suite. When installing FranklinPlanner Software you are asked to provide your user name, during the installation the software creates an Access database with that name. For example, if the name 'Susan Roberts' was entered as the user name, the installer would create the database Susan Roberts.mdb. In this example <your name> equates to Susan Roberts.

If you do not have Microsoft Access 97, 2000, XP, or 2003 or you are uncomfortable working in Microsoft Access:

  1. Email your database to datacenter@franklincovey.com and we will repair the file for you within one to two business days. If the database is larger than 4 megabytes, use WinZip to zip the file before sending it. The default location for your database is C:\Program Files\FranklinCovey\Planner\<your name>.mdb
  2. Be sure to include "Error 3010" in the message.
  3. We will send you the database back with instructions on how to restore it.

NOTE: Once you have restored your repaired database, please close down FranklinPlanner Software before synchronizing a Palm device. It has been found that synchronizing the Palm device while FranklinPlanner Software is open could be a contributing factor to this issue. If you have experienced the 3010/GetRows Failed error, we recommend you close FranklinPlanner Software each time before synchronizing your Palm device.

If you have Microsoft® Access 97 and feel comfortable repairing the database on your own:
  1. Make a backup of your database by clicking Start, Programs, FranklinCovey Planning Software, Tools & Utilities. Click Backup, browse to your backup location, and choose Backup.
  2. Right click on Start, and choose Explore. Browse to your database location (C:\Program Files\FranklinCovey\Planner\). Double-click on your <your name>.mdb. This should open your database in MS Access.
  3. Ensure the Tables tab is selected and double click on AxPhoneNumbers from the list of tables.
  4. In the AxPhoneNumbers table there will be a number of columns. Identify the Phone column (it may or may not be here). If the Phone column is there, verify that the column is empty. If the column is empty, right click on Phone and choose Delete Column.
  5. Identify the PhoneNEW column. Right click on the PhoneNEW column and choose Rename. Rename the column to Phone.
  6. Close Access and open your FranklinCovey® software.
If you have Microsoft Access 2000, XP, or 2003:
  1. Make a backup of your database by clicking Start, Programs, FranklinCovey Planning Software, Tools & Utilities. Click Backup, browse to your backup location, and choose Backup.
  2. Open MS Access. If any databases are open, please close them before proceeding.
  3. In Access, click Tools, Database Utilities, Convert Database to Current Access Database Version (If you are using Access 2002, or 2003, convert the database To Access 2000 File Format).
  4. Browse to the location of your database (C:\Program Files\Franklin Covey\Planner\<your name.mdb>), select it and choose Convert. When converting a database in MS Access the original database is maintained and a copy of the database is created.
  5. Type in <your name>2000.mdb as the name of your converted database and click Save. Click OK to any messages that come up.
  6. Click File and choose Open. Browse to the <your name>2000.mdb file, select it and choose Open. If asked, choose to 'Enable Macros'.
  7. Ensure that Tables is selected and double click on AxPhoneNumbers from the table list.
  8. In the AxPhoneNumbers table there will be a number of columns. Identify the Phone column (it may or may not be here). Verify that no information is in the Phone column. If there is no information in the Phone column, right click on Phone and choose Delete Column.
  9. Identify the PhoneNEW column. Right click on the PhoneNEW column and choose Rename. Rename the column to Phone.
  10. Close out of the AxPhoneNumbers table.
  11. Click Tools, Database Utilities, Convert Database, To Prior Access Database Version (If you are using Access 2002, or 2003, convert the database To Access 97 File Format).
  12. For the name of the converted database type <your name>repaired.mdb and click Save. Click OK to any messages that come up.
  13. Close out of MS Access.
  14. Right click on your Start button and choose Explore.
  15. Browse to the location of your databases (C:\Program Files\FranklinCovey\Planner)
  16. Right click on <your name>.mdb and choose Rename. Rename the file to <your name>old.mdb.
  17. Right click on <your name>2000.mdb and choose Delete.
  18. Right click on <your name>repaired.mdb and choose Rename. Rename the file to <your name>.mdb.
  19. Open your FranklinCovey® software.

NOTE: Once you have resolved the 3010/Get Rows Failed error, close down FranklinPlanner Software before synchronizing a Palm device. It has been found that synchronizing a Palm device while FranklinPlanner Software is open could be a contributing factor to this issue. We recommend you close FranklinPlanner Software each time before synchronizing your Palm device.
