Sometimes, an application can be blocked, but no alerts are displayed.
This situation occurs most commonly when the application loads before ZA,
and the Zone that the application is communicating with is set to High
security. Since the zone is set to High security, ZoneAlarm blocks
communications for applications that have not been allowed access.
There are several approaches to this kind of a situation.
1. Assure that ZA launches before any applications in which this problem
occurs. Sometimes this is more easily said than done, as it may be difficult
to juggle the start order of some major system applications.
2. Open specific ports for the application (check with the application
manufacturer support for specific ports to open). Thus, even if ZA is
launched after this application, the ports are accessible and will not be
3. Set the Internet Zone Security level to Medium.
4. If the application is connecting to a specific site/IP, you can add that to
your Trusted Zone, and make sure Trusted Zone is set to Medium
(allowing you to leave Internet set to High).
